The articulation obstacles were super fun and in my opinion really showed off what the Tiguan is capable of.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is easily one the nicest all rounder SUVs in the Indian market today. Fantastic to drive in the city and at the same time a mile muncher on the highway. But in al this, one tends to forget that the Tiguan come with the 4 Motion all wheel drive system too. Just that one does not really use it. So to show what the Tiguan is really capable off, Volkswagen held an off-road experience event over a weekend in BKC Mumbai and I got to be a part of it.

I opted for an early morning slot and got there at 10 am. After a quick history on the Tiguan and a briefing session, we were good to go. There were around 5to 6 Tiguans ready to be driven on a man made obstacle course. Each obstacle was made to showcase the capabilities of this SUV.

The first obstacle was a steep incline and decline followed by a couple of wheel articulation exercises. Here there was a Level 1 difficulty and then a Level 2. Going up and down was a piece of cake the and Hill Hold and Hill Descent features worked brilliantly on the inclines and declines.

The articulation obstacles were super fun and in my opinion really showed off what the Tiguan is capable of. I have done a lot of hardcore off-roading before but the Tiguan really surprised me in a pleasant way. The 4 Motion AWD sends traction perfectly to the wheel that needs it. However a wheel hanging in the air can give anyone a scare. The grunt from the 2.0 TSI also makes itself present. Also its best to do off-roading by putting the gearbox in manual mode. That way it holds the gear and doesn’t upshift on throttle inputs.

There was a water wading obstacle as well but unfortunately the pool had dried up due to the Mumbai heat in October. So that was something I missed out on. Still I did see a couple of other videos where the Tiguan waded through the water without a sweat.

The entire course lasted about only 10 minutes but it was quite engaging to say the least.

Overall it was a Sunday morning well spent heat not withstanding. I have always loved the Tiguan for the amazing package that it is. That’s a natural being the owner of a VW myself. After experiencing it in a different scenario today, respect has gone up multiple folds. Hope Volkswagen India continues to host such event for us enthusiasts going forward.
