The Ford Mustang has been officially launched in India at a price of Rs. 65 lakh ex showroom Delhi. The car will be sold as a fully imported CBU and bookings will commence in Delhi and Mumbai in the first phase.
This is the sixth generation of the Ford Mustang that was launched globally in 2014. That year also marked the 50th Anniversary of the iconic car. The current gen car is the first Mustang to be made in right hand drive. The current Mustang is lighter and stiffer than the previous gen cars. Features include HID headlamps, puddle lamps with Mustang logo projection, independent front and rear suspension, 19 inch alloy wheels, performance brakes, 8 inch touch screen for the infotainment system, ambient lighting for the interior and four driving modes – Normal, Sport+, Track and Wet.
Safety features include eight airbags including knee airbags, crash sensors, safety belt pre-tensioners and Ford MyKey.
The India spec Ford Mustang features a 5.0 litre V8 engine developing 401 horsepower and 515 Nm torque. The engine is mated to a six speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. It will come with a limited slip differential for improved traction. A special performance pack will also be offered as standard with the car. The car comes with a staggered tyre setup with 255/40 ZR 19 tyres at the front and 275/40 ZR 19 profile rubber at the rear.
The Ford Mustang first went on sale in 1964 and has since been a cult car. It has sold 9 million units globally till date. After going right hand drive, the Mustang has seen sales of 110,000 units globally in the year 2015.
