Things change in the EQS when you hit the accelerator hard. The 855 Nm hits you like bullet and you get pushed back into the seat.

Merecedes-Benz has always had a habit of outdoing themselves. The brand dives deep into the future and brings the technology of tomorrow into the cars that we drive today. And a fine example of this statement is the car you see in these pictures, the Mercedes-Benz EQS580. It is the first car to be fully developed as an EV and not based on a previous model. The German car maker brought the EQS to Indian shores in the guise of the EQS53 AMG that was launched in August this year. And now comes the EQS580. What makes this car more special is that it is the first all-electric Benz to be assembled in India, and our country is also the first outside of Germany to make the EQS. The ‘S’ letter is very special and for the EQS to sport it, there has to be something special right? I spent a day driving it about to tell you if this the future of luxury sedans in India. Read on.

Mercedes-Benz EQS580 Exterior

The EQS is built on Mercedes’ new EVA2 architecture and is a completely new car throughout. It has a drag coefficient of just 0.20Cd making it the most aerodynamic production car in the world. And you will nod in agreement when you the smooth clean lines on the EQS. The front sports a piano black panel in place of a grille and sports a large three pointed star. The rest of the panel features tiny stars that give quite a classy look and light up in the dark..How cool is that? A big highlight of the EQS are the headlamps. These multi beam units feature 1.3 million pixels in each lamp. The bonnet of the EQS is sealed and can only be opened by a Mercedes technician during service. That’s why there is an opening flap in the front fender that can be used to fill the windshield wash fluid. There is an EQS badging on the A pillar and the ORVMs house 360 degree camera and puddle lamps. Look at the car from the side and you can see how long it is. 5.2 metres to be precise and a wheelbase of 3.2 metres. That translates to low ground clearance but you do get raising suspension. Also the biggest piece de resistance is the rear axle steering that turns upto 10 degrees. This will be offered to the first 500 customers free of cost. There are 20 inch alloy wheels as standard and flush door handles that pop out when you do a swipe on them. At the rear, the LED tail lamps have beautiful detailing and are connected by a light bar. The boot can be opened via the logo on the tail gate and it opens like a hatch rather than a sedan. The 610 litre boot is spacious but you don’t get a spare tyre, not even a space saver.
