The MG Comet turns a lot of heads and there were many people asking about the car, the pricing.

I have always been of the opinion that a compact electric car is the perfect recipe for our congested Indian cities. Indians have always taken to small cars and that’s why this is more relevant. And MG has gone out and done just that. The car maker already has ZS EV in the market which is doing and but what you see here is an ultra compact car which MG says will change electric mobility in India. It has 2 doors and its electric. This is the MG Comet and its unlike anything you have seen on Indian roads till date. Prices start at Rs. 7.98 lakh making it the most affordable EV on sale in the country today. I drove it around Delhi roads to get a taste of what its like.

MG Comet Exterior

The MG Comet is based on is based on SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform, so it isn’t based on any ICE model. The Comet is essentially the Wuling Air EV that’s on sale in China. Coming to the design, its quite a stand out, funky from some angles and quirky from others. Tall boy designs have been well accepted in our country, the first gen Santro and WagonR being fine examples. The Comet falls in the tall boy club as well. You get an illumated MG logo up front along with the charging port located right next to it. It gets LED headlamps, turn indicators on the ORVMs and a smart looking light bar for the tail lamps. The Comet rides on small 12 inch wheels with 145/70 profile tyres (reminds me of the Maruti 800). It comes with smart looking wheel covers. Dimensions wise, the Comet measures 2,974 mm in length, 1,505 mm in width and 1,640 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,010 mm. The unladen ground clearance is 165 mm which is good enough for our roads. The car’s looks turn a lot of heads and there were many people asking about the car, the pricing (it wasn’t out then) etc. Not to mention the number of thumbs ups on Delhi roads even from big SUV drivers. That said, full marks to MG for thinking out of the box in terms of design. Four exterior colour options are available along with a ton of customization options to suit your style and taste.
