Mercedes-Benz G350d Ride & Handling

Coming to the ride quality, I have to admit that it totally surprised me. It is very, very impressive. The G just eats up everything in its path, be it potholes, undulations, expansion joints, you name it. And this is with the 20 inch wheels, so the ride would be even better with the standard 18 inchers. Despite being a ladder on frame setup and a having a high centre of gravity, the G350d is reasonably poised going around corners. High speed stability is great and the G feels planted cruising at triple digit speeds. The steering feels quick, though I would have liked a little more feedback.

Mercedes-Benz G350d Verdict

I have never ended my review before with something that I am going to say now, but here goes.. I just want one. That inline six diesel engine is amazingly refined, the new G-Wagen drives beautifully too, the interiors are as luxurious as any other Merc out there, is practical and the best of all, I love the invincible feeling that it gives when driving. At Rs. 1.5 crore, it may be substantially cheaper than the AMG G63 but it still is expensive. Add some options, and the price goes up further. Also, there are many other cars you could get  at that price or lesser including the new GLS. But then you don’t buy a G-Wagen thinking from the head. Emotional decisions are taken from the heart. And the Mercedes Benz G-Wagen is an emotion. I guess you got my point. For those who want to splurge, pick the G63, and if not, the G350 strikes the perfect balance of power, character and style. And I am already dreaming of driving one to Ladakh.
