The Tata Safari has been a much loved SUV and has a massive fan following. The stand out TV commercials along with the ‘Reclaim Your Life’ line tugged at the heart strings of many an enthusiast. After being discontinued towards the end of 2019, the Safari name plate is back. Tata Motors had showcased their 7 seater flagship SUV as the Gravitas at the Auto Expo 2020, but it will go on sale as the second generation Tata Safari. And that has lead to a lot of excitement, us included. So how better is the new Safari over its predecessor? Is 2021 Tata Safari good enough to make you “Reclaim You Life” again? Read on for the answers.

2021 Tata Safari Exterior

The new Tata Safari is based on the OMEGARC architecture derived from the D8 Land Rover platform. The same platform also unpins the Safari’s stable mate, the Harrier. Dimensions wise, the Safari longer than the Harrier at 4661 mm, height is at 1786 mm while the width is the same as the Harrier at 1894 mm. The wheelbase is identical. There are design similarities with the Harrier as well. At the front, distinguishing factors comprise of a new design chrome front grille with tri arrow elements, chrome surrounds for the Xenon projector headlamps and a silver finish for the centre part of the front bumper. On the side, the Safari gets flared wheel arches along with body cladding. The Safari gets 18 inch alloy wheels but the design is similar to those on the Harrier. Tata could have offered a different design to set it apart. Moving on, it is after the C pillar that the design changes are more apparent. It gets a larger overhand along with a stepped up roof design (reminds you of the previous generation Safari). There is a larger quarter glass for the third row and roof rails with chrome inserts carrying the Safari inscription. The rear is straight and upright if you compare it to the Harrier. The tail lamps are redesigned and there is a roof mounted spoiler as well. The tail gate also gets the Safari lettering. To sum it up, despite the similarities with the Harrier in terms of looks, the Safari has a very distinct character of its own and immense street presence. While the Safari looks stately in the Orcus White Shade, the new Royal Blue paint shade really stands out and reminded me of the Blue that was offered on the first gen model.
