2021 Tata Safari Engine & Performance

The new Tata Safari is powered by the same 2.0 litre diesel engine that also does duty in the Harrier. It makes an identical 170 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Gearbox options include a six speed manual and a 6 speed torque converter automatic. What impresses first up is the refinement of the motor. The manual gearbox though isn’t the best around and felt notchy at times. It is not easy to slot either. The clutch feels heavy and travel is long. Shifting feels better when you are on the move in cruise mode though. But it’s the automatic that we would recommend and easily the one to pick. The 6 speed transmission works flawlessly with the engine and they are a perfect combination. Shifts are very smooth and there is no lag whatsoever even when executing a kickdown. The engine has enough power and is well spread across the rev range and the it can effortlessly much up kms all day long.  The Eco, City and Sport drive modes only make things better. If you love long distance driving and road trips, the Safari will surely bring a smile to your face.
