Perhaps the most iconic car of all time, the legendary Porsche 911 is currently in its eighth generation of production. Codenamed 992, the German manufacture has finally unveiled the new Targa body style for this generation of the car. Popular for more than 5 decades, the latest Targa carries on with the iconic design complete with its wrap-around rear window and a fabric top which can be retracted in 19 seconds. Apart from that, it retains the new design elements of the new generation, 992 model of the 911, including the extended spoiler which pops up to an angle the car thinks is most appropriate according to the driving conditions.

Porsche will offer the car with a twin-turbocharged, 3-litre flat-six motor, in two different stages of tune. The ‘entry-level‘ Targa 4 will offer a power output of 379 hp while the Targa 4s will come with 443 hp to exploit. Both these variants will come with all-wheel drive as standard. Apart from that, these two models feature Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Traction management system as standard. Optional equipment includes Porsche InnoDrive which brings features like adaptive cruise control for the first time in the Targa body style. Another optional feature worth mentioning is the new Smartlift function, which automatically raises the front axle of the car at places you visit frequently which require the lift to be up.

Buyers of the new Targa shall get an 8-speed PDK transmission as standard. When equipped with the Sports Chrono Package, the Targa 4 shall take about 4 seconds to reach 100 kmph from a standstill while the Targa 4S, with additional power, shall manage to do the same in 3.4 seconds. This makes the Targa models not only more powerful than its predecessors but also faster. However, if you want a more immersed experience, Porsche will allow you to choose a seven-speed manual transmission, along with the Sports Chrono package as a no-cost option, but along with the Targa 4S only. Expect this new model to join the likes of the new Carrera and Turbo models in India very soon.
