Tata Altroz Ride & Handling

A big highlight of the Tata Altroz is in the way it drives. While the suspension does feel a little on the firmer side, it soaks in undulations even at low speeds and gets better as you climb up the speedometer. I did manage to fly over a few rumbler strips on the way to Longewala but nothing filtered into the cabin. What is also impressive is the high speed stability. The Altroz feels completely planted at high speeds and that is very confidence inspiring. The steering has a great feel too. While it is light at low speeds, it weighs up nicely as you go faster. Braking is efficient.

The safety kit on the Tata Altroz includes dual airbags, ABS, ISOFIX, seat belt reminders, rear parking sensors and high speed alert system.

Tata Altroz Verdict

The first impression of a new car is always in the way it looks and Tata Motors has a winner in that department already. The design is funky and will appeal to the buyer looking for a premium hatch. The interiors are great too with a feature list to match. Space and comfort have always been a Tata trait and the Altroz is no different. The diesel engine is punchy and quite fun to drive and dynamics feel easily the best in the segment. What could be better is the petrol engine, and an automatic transmission is sorely missed.

Apart from the four trim levels, XE, XM, XT and XZ, Tata Motors will be offering four custom packages for the Altroz. These are Luxe, Rhythm, Style and Urban. With these packages you will be able to add equipment from another trim level that may be missing in the variant you are looking to buy.

And finally, all that remains is the price. It Tata Motors can get that right (pricing expected Rs. 5.5 to 8 lakh), the Altroz can hit the ball out of the park and be a sure shot winner.
