Toyota Fortuner Legender Engine & Performance

The most significant change is under the hood. The 2.8 litre BS6 turbo diesel engine now makes 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. That’s 27 horses and 80 Nm torque more than the previous model. The difference is apparent immediately once you start driving. The motor is more refined than before and feels quicker too. Low end is really nice too. The gearbox is tuned well and the shifts are smooth. However the engine does tend to get a tad boomy at higher rpms. Cruise at speeds of 100 kph and its smooth sailing all the way. Overtaking is a breeze and the auto box responds rather quickly to a kick down request. Eco mode will make this big SUV sluggish but rewards would be slight better FE on the go. For the Sport mode, the good thing is that you do get paddle shifters to take manual control. The difference is driving in Normal and Sport is hard to notice though.

Toyota Fortuner Legender Ride & Handling

Ride quality is compliant and comfortable for the course but it does tend to get bumpy at times. The Fortuner devours bad roads and undulations without a sweat without you having to slow down for any of those. Body roll is obviously existent in this tall ladder frame SUV, but high speed stability is excellent and so is the braking. In the city, the steering does feel on the heavier side, so navigating narrow lanes or manoeuvring in traffic can be a bit of a task. This 4×2 version does well on mild off-roads trails but for the hardcore stuff, it’s the 4×4 version all the way. It is totally a mountain goat at that.
