Volkswagen Taigun Interior

The first thing you do after getting inside is shutting the door, and once you hear that ‘thud’, you know things are all right here. The cabin is signature new age Volkswagen and the dashboard is very neatly laid out. The 8 inch digital instrument cluster on the automatic variant is pleasing to the eyes and is easy to read. The manual version sticks to regular analogue dials for the tacho meter and speedo, and while we all move forward with the times, the old school me still loves analogue over digital. The dashboard is two tone and Volkswagen has given some nice textures which feel premium. Since my daily driver is a Polo, I felt right at home with the flat bottom steering which feels nice to hold. I also like the way the new VW logo is incorporated into the steering. There are some hard plastics at places but they too feel built to last. Other nice stuff includes the touch operation climate control and red ambient lighting. What’s not so nice are the blank buttons on the centre console that look out of place for a car in this segment. The manual variant also featured red metallic finish on the dashboard, and while I like it, it can draw divided opinion.

The Taigun gets a 10 inch infotainment system with a neat layout and is easy to use. The graphics are crisp and fonts used are clean too. It comes with wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Additionally, it also gets pre-loaded apps that can be used with your smartphone’s internet. Other features include a wireless charging pad, push button start on the GT automatic, auto dimming mirror, cruise control and a sunroof. Surprisingly, ventilated seats are not available on the GT variants, but non GT models gets them. Hopefully they should be available on the GT soon.

The seats of the Taigun are well designed and have a very pleasing upholstery design. The front seats have good adjustment levels and finding the perfect driving position isn’t difficult. What is impressive is the space at the rear. There is comfort even after adjusting the front seat for a six footer and knee room and under thigh support is excellent. The backrests have nice contours and the angle is right too. The lower window line makes it airy at the rear as well. There are three adjustable head rests and even a three point seat belt for the middle passenger. The floor hump is low but still it would be best for two occupants because the contoured design of the seats. There are rear AC vents and charging points as well.

There is no dearth of storage spaces, the door pockets are big and there are cupholders all around as well. The boot is deep and can swallow quite a bit of luggage. The rear seats also flip forward 60:40 to offer more cargo space.
