Volvo owned performance division Polestar has announced a more powerful XC90 with an upgraded version of the 2.0 litre four cylinder Drive-E engine.

Although the engine is a four cylinder, Polestar’s chief operating officer says that it’s going to be “as strong or even stronger” than the outgoing six-cylinder engine. The engine will be both turbo charged and supercharged and will develop 350 bhp. The engine will be mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox.

The same engine is expected to power other high spec Volvos and Polestar is also considering performance hybrids.
