Swedish luxury carmaker, Volvo has been carving its space in the Indian market for a good number of years now. The company is steadily increasing its sales numbers across the country. However, the S90 happens to be the only sedan that the company currently has to offer amongst SUVs of various sizes and applications. Sure, the demand for SUVs in the Indian market is quite high but there is still a good number of buyers out there who would like a sedan. As a result, the luxury car manufacturer will soon offer the S60 sedan to our market, which will slot below the S90 sedan in Volvo’s model line up. The car will be launched in the month of March in 2021.

This new generation model will replace the older S60 which was offered to Indian customers until July 2019. With a rather massive delay in the launch of the car already, the company will start to take pre-bookings of the sedan by the month of January next year. Along with this sedan, the company also plans to launch the all-electric SUV, the XC40 Recharge in 2021.

The new generation model of the S60 sedan uses Volvo’s scalable product architecture platform, replacing the Ford underpinnings used earlier. As a result, this new model looks like a smaller version of its elder sibling, the S90. The design is quintessentially Volvo, with the Thor LED DRLs present upfront, the C shaped tail lights at the rear and rather sophisticated design language.

On the inside, do not expect any deviation from Volvo’s design language. Expect Volvo to appoint the best quality of materials, with its trademark portrait touchscreen. Additionally, expect a plethora of features to be on offer as well, including and not limited to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, four zone climate control, wireless charging, a branded music system, a panoramic sunroof and some more.

Just like all Volvo’s, the S60 will come with no compromise on safety. The car has already received a full 5-star safety rating from European NCAP crash tests. Additionally, active safety aids like driver alert systems, adaptive cruise control, high-speed alert, automatic braking, etc would be offered with the car.

Under the bonnet, Volvo will offer a 2-litre, T4, petrol engine. This motor is tuned to develop around 190 horses and offer 300 Nm of twist. This engine will come mated with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. When launched, the car will lock horns with the likes of the Mercedes Benz C-Class, the Jaguar XE and the BMW 3-Series.
