While fighting this pandemic, the world is indeed going through tough times, with the travelling circus of Forumula1 too, on hold. The iconic Monaco F1 GP was cancelled for the first time since 1954. However, residents of Monaco did get to witness a Ferrari tearing up the empty streets on what would have been the race weekend. Ferrari F1 Driver Charles LeClerc, who happens to be from this beautiful country, was seen behind the wheel of the new Ferrari SF90 Stradale. Do have a look at this video, where this skilled driver takes the new prancing horse to the limits, making the tyres scream for grip.

Talking about the car, the SF90 Stradale derives its name from the 2019 Formula1 challenger, the  Ferrari SF90. This road car uses a hybrid powerplant, working in conjunction with a twin-turbocharged V8 motor, to generate a total of 986 hp, making it one of the most powerful road-going Ferrari on sale. It uses a total of three electric motors, one connected to the crankshaft and two in the front, powering each wheel. Interestingly, the 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox of the car does not have a dedicated reverse gear, it is the motors of the front wheels that take care of reversing duties. These motors are also responsible for torque vectoring, explaining why the car appears to be so well behaved at the iconic hairpin turn of the Monaco circuit at such a high rate of speed.

The engine, which sits quite lower in the aluminium-carbon fibre chassis, is essentially a bored-out version of the unit seen in the F8 Tributo. Now with a capacity of 4-litres, the engine is capable of generation 769 hp. An additional 217 horses from the motors, powered by a 7.9 kWh battery pack are capable of pushing the car to the ton in a matter of 2.5 seconds. While we have seen numbers and power figures like these from a Ferrari before, it is for the first time Ferrari is offering all this in a, for lack of a better word, regular supercar.

 

As exciting as the exterior is to look at, it also is quite aerodynamically efficient. With a number of aerodynamic features like the S-Duct in the front, vortex generators and an active spoiler amongst many more, the car can generate downforce of 390 kg at 250 kmph! The interior of this car represents the new Ferrari design language which would be seen on many cars from Maranello in the future. Gone is the physical rev counter, with its yellow background and is replaced with a screen reproducing it digitally. Touch-sensitive panels replace every button on the interior and steering wheel. Another new feature, called the eMannetino can also be seen on the steering wheel which will allow the driver to switch between various driving modes. Also, the few physical buttons the car has, essentially for selecting reverse gear, switching between automatic and manual modes and engaging launch control, have all been beautifully placed between the two seats, mimicking the appearance of a gated manual shifter.

Expected to make its debut in the Indian market soon, this new hybrid supercar will be the most expensive Ferrari to be on sale in India, a title currently held by the 812 Superfast.
