In a rather discreet manner, perhaps just how customers of this model would like it, German car manufacturer, Audi, unveiled the brand new A8 L security. This new flagship model is aimed at customers who prefer to travel in luxury with the protection capability of nothing less than a tank. Apart from a few differences, the LED strobe lights in the grille, for instance, there is not much difference in terms of cosmetics between the regular A8 L and the Security. However, unlike the regular A8 L, the car is made to VR9 level bulletproof standards with glass made to resistance level 10.

In order to withstand any sort of threat, behind the body of the A8 L Security are layers of high strength steel and a special aluminium alloy. Moreover, the glass also gets a thick, multi-layered design to prevent and projectiles from entering the cabin. For additional security, the car gets a self-sealing fuel tank and run-flat tyres which can be driven till speeds of up to 80 kmph. The boot also hides components for the internal communication system, comprising an intercom for the occupants to talk to people outside via a loudspeaker and a back up electronic system.

The occupants of the car pretty much get the same equipment as you would find in your regular A8 L, with a few additional features. These additional features also include controls for a fire extinguishing system, which works cleverly to put out any flames under or around that would stand a chance of harming the occupants. The car also gets a limited supply of fresh air, to protect the occupants from a chemical attack. Moreover, if a situation demands, the doors of the car can be blasted off to allow a quick exit if in case the car is trapped.

As a result of this additional armour and security, the car tips the scales at a hefty 3,875 kg. In order to move this hefty vehicle around, Audi employs the twin-turbo V8 motor from the S8, which is tuned to offer 571 hp of peak power and 800 Nm of torque. Powering all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the A8 L Security manages to reach 100 kmph within 6.3 seconds, enabling the car to sprint away from most threatening situations. This new car joins the likes of the BMW 7-Series High Security and Mercedes Benz S-Class Guard in this niche segment of highly armoured luxury.
