The Mahindra XUV300 has scored five stars in the Global NCAP crash tests. The XUV300 is the third Indian car after the Tata Nexon and Tata Altroz to achieve this feat.

The XU300 is also the first Indian car to receive the highest points in all the five star rated cars so far and also to get a four star child safety rating. The XUV300 has managed to score 16.42 out of 17 for adult occupant protection and 37.44 out of 49 for child occupant protection.

In its report, Global NCAP said that the XUV300’s structure and footwell were ‘stable’ during the crash. Protection of the Head, neck and knee for adult occupants was ‘good’, and while chest protection for the front passenger was also ‘good’, ratings for the driver was ‘adequate’ t was also noted that the XUV300 showed “the lowest level of intrusion and best side-impact crashworthiness performance of any model tested so far”.

Global NCAP also stated that protection for the 3-year-old child dummy (placed in a forward-facing child seat) was ‘fair’, and protection for the 1.5-year-old child dummy (placed in a rearward-facing child seat) was ‘good’.

The car used for the test was the fully loaded W8( variant of the XUV300. Safety features on the variant include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, cornering brake control, disc brakes for all four wheels, front seatbelt reminder system, front seatbelt pre tensioners and a passenger airbag deactivation switch. The W8 O variant gets 7 airbags, seat belt reminders for all passengers and a three point seat belt for the rear middle passenger.

The Mahindra XUV300 is powered by a 1.5 litre diesel engine putting out 117 hp and 300 Nm of torque and a 1.2 litre turbo petrol with 110 hp and 200 Nm. A six speed manual gearbox is standard with both engines, while the diesel gets thr choice of a 6 speed AMT as well.
