It is is known fact that convertibles don’t really make sense in our country. With the pollution we have and the fear of all kinds of stuff landing on our heads, one might not really enjoy the open top experience. But drive one and  all those thoughts vanish into thin air. And what better if it is an AMG. Come to think of it, the first ever convertible I drove was an AMG roadster, the SL55 way back in 2004. Cut to the present, Mercedes launched the AMG GT in India in 2015 and followed it up with the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster a couple of years later. And that’s what Im driving today. A late night drive around the city of dreams, Mumbai seems like the perfect scenario to enjoy this drop top firecracker. And thats exactly what I did.

Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster Exterior

The AMG GT Roadster gets styling inspiration from the older classic Mercedes-Benz GT coupes and roadsters. The long bonnet is one such characteristic. Complete with creases and a muscle car bulge. The prominent panamericana front grille looks swell and features a large three pointed star. There are LED headlamps with day time running lamps and they  feature some nice design elements. On the side, there are carbon fibre ORVMs, vents on the front fenders finished in black featuring the V8 Bi-Turbo logo. The multi spoke forged matt black alloy wheels matched the red exterior paint shade of the test car perfectly. The black fabric soft top can open or close in just 11 seconds at speeds of upto 50 kph. Thr rear features slim, beautifully detailed tail lamps, an integrated active rear spoiler and dual exhausts in the rear bumper. With perfect design lines, the AMG GT Roadster is nothing shot of art on wheels. But at times I do wonder if a foldable hard top could have been incorporated into this design. Now that would really be something.
