New Audi R8 Spyder spied undisguised
The upcoming new Audi R8 Spyder has been spied undisguised for the first time. It is expected to launch sometime next year.
Audi offers the R8 coupe in standard and Plus versions. Visually the Audi R8 Spyder looks similar to the coupe except that the drop top gets a covered engine bay, unlike the transparent engine cover in the coupe. 
Mechanically it should be similar to the coupe as well. The Audi R8 Spyder should be powered by the same 5.2 litre naturally aspirated V10 engine that is shared with the Lamborghini Huracan. In standard form the engine puts out 532 bhp while the top of the line Plus variant puts out 601 bhp. The motor is mated to a 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox which has been worked on to adopt an auto start stop function. The new R8 also gets cylinder on demand where half the engine cylinders automatically shut off when not needed. It is not knw if the Spyder will be offered in Plus form.
Other features include Audi virtual cockpit a multifunction steering wheel with 20 controls that the driver use to operate various functions of the car, LED headlamps and dynamic turn signals.
The new Audi R8 V10 Plus was launched in India at the Auto Expo 2016 in February.
