Tata Motors has pulled out a big surprise at the beginning of the new year. The Tata Gravitas which is the car maker’s flagship SUV, will be launched as the Tata Safari. With the the iconic Safari nameplate lives again. The Gravitas was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020.

The new Tata Safari is the 7 seater version of the Harrier SUV. While the Harrier is a 5 seater SUV, the Safari will get a third row seating just like its predecessor namesake. The Safari is 63mm longer than the Harrier, as well as 80mm taller.  The Tata Safari will feature the same 2.0 litre Kyrotec diesel engine that does duty in the Harrier. This engine develops 170 horsepower. Transmission options include a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed automatic gearbox. The original Safari also came with 4×4 so will the new one get it as well? That only time will tell.

Bookings for the new Tata Safari are set to commence shortly and the SUV will reach showrooms in January itself i.e this month.
